FirstRead

George Haddow is no stranger when it comes to WWI flying boats.

The first Datafile for the year sees him take on the Lohner Type M.
It follows the usual A4 sized format and contains 32 pages within the soft card covers.

The text provides a history lesson on the development of the aircraft before describing its use in combat. To further illustrate the point, over 70 black and white period photos are provided.

Many are printed two or three to a page so that the reader can gain maximum benefit from the images.

General arrangement drawings are a feature of these publications and we are not let down here. Both 1:72 and 1:48 scale options are catered for and are done by the capable hands of the author himself.

A “Colours and Markings” chapter explains the plumage of these two seaters and is backed up by some wonderful artwork. This takes the form of three profiles from Bob Pearson and focuses on the aircraft marked E17, E21 and E33.

The appendix tabulates the Lohner’s specifications and allows easy comparison between the M, Mn (M2), Mk and Mkn.

Conclusion

Once again the modeller is presented with a very handy reference package.

The combination of narrative, plans, photos and artwork produce a book that is recommended to all flying boat enthusiasts.
