Mushroom's Skua & Roc book is available online from Squadron
If you have seen any of the Mushroom Model Publications books you will know that they feature well drawn plans of the subject aircraft of the respective book. The vast majority of the plans that I have seen in these books to date are in 1/72 scale and are, well, small!
Someone at Mushroom Model Publications must have thought the same thing too as they have just released a new series called Scale Plans and up-sized the drawings to 1/48 scale.
Basically, what you are getting for your money is a collection of 1/48 scale plans for six aircraft that have been printed on A-3 sized sheets and folded to A-4 size, placed between cardboard covers and spiral bound.
Why spiral bound do I hear you say? Well, the spiral binding enables you to open the book to the appropriate plan and the page then lays flat. This is a definite advantage when compared with any other form of binding as you don’t have to struggle in trying to keep the page flat against the binding (and risk damaging it) whilst you are trying to lay kit parts over the plans to compare them.
Set No.1 contains 1/48 scale plans for six aircraft in all as follows:
- Douglas SBD Dauntless. Two double-sided sheets with plans for SBD-1, SBD-2, SBD-3 and SBD-5. Left and right hand side profiles as well as upper and lower as well as front-on views are included. Drawn by Dariusz Karnas.
- PZL.23 Kara?. Two double-sided sheets with plans for PZL.23 Kara? B with left and right hand side, upper and lower surface and front and rear profiles. Drawn by Mariusuz Kubryn.
- Blackburn Skua. Three pages showing side profiles of the first and second prototypes as well as upper and lower surface plan and front-on rear-on views. A larger than 1/48 scale drawing of a Vickers K gun is also included. Drawn by Dariusz Karnas.
- Blackburn Roc. Three pages showing a Roc, a float mounted Roc, and a Roc fitted as a Target Tug. Upper and lower plan views as well left and right profiles as well as a front-on view. Drawn by Dariusz Karnas.
- MiG-3. A single sheet showing upper and lower plan views and left and right hand side profiles of an early version on the front and a late version on the rear. The early version also gets front-on and rear-on views. Drawn by Dariusz Karnas.
- Bolton-Paul Defiant. Two double sided pages with drawings of F Mk 1 Merlin III, F Mk 1 PR Merlin III, and A Target Tug Mk 1. As with the others you get left and right hand plan views, left and right profiles and head-on and tail-on views. Drawn by Dariusz Karnas.
- Republic P-47 Thunderbolt. Two double-sided sheets with drawings of
a P-47D-25-RE, and a P-47N-20-RE. As with the others, upper and lower plan views, left and right hand side profiles and front-on and tail-on views are provided. Drawn by Dariusz Karnas.
If you want to have a look at a selection of these plans head on over to the Mushroom Models Publications website at http://www.mmpbooks.biz/books/sc001/Plans_48_net.pdf where they have loaded four pages of them to give you an idea of what you are getting for your money.
This is handy modelling tool as far as I am concerned.
