Eduard has released four detail sets for the Special Hobby 1/32 P-39D Airacobra.
Each set focuses on a different aspect of the model, from basic external details to the undercarriage, landing flaps, and cockpit interior.
Together or individually, these detail sets offer modelers with plenty of opportunity to dress up the basic Airacobra kit.
Here’s a look at the contents of each set.
32 171 – P-39D Airacobra Exterior
This set contains a single etched fret to detail the kit’s bomb and drop tanks, gun troughs, radiator flaps, and radiator intake screens. The set also contains details for the interior bulkheads of repositioned control surfaces on the tail.
32 178 – P-39D Airacobra Undercarriage
The two etched frets in this set allow modelers to extensively detail the wheel bays and undercarriage of Special Hobby’s 1/32 P-39D Airacobra. Some pieces, such as the gear covers and associated details, replace the thicker and less detailed kit parts, whereas other pieces are intended as enhancements to kit parts. The details in this set will figure prominently on the completed model, raising the bar for what can be accomplished with the kit.
32 180 – P-39D Airacobra Landing Flaps
This set contains two large etched frets for detailing and dropping the landing flaps on the 1/32 Special Hobby P-39D Airacobra. Some experience with etched metal will be helpful with this set, as there are lots of small parts to deal with, as well as the need for some fancy folding. Despite the challenges, the end result should be impressive.
32 595 – P-39D Airacobra Interior
Eduard provides two etched frets for detailing the cockpit of the 1/32 Special Hobby P-39D Airacobra. One fret features colored, self-adhesive etched metal that includes a beautifully detailed instrument panel, seat belts and buckles, rudder pedals, and various controls and placards. The other etched fret includes a replacement seat, internal details for the canopy frames, armored glass frames, and details for the interior surfaces of the doors. Because of the large number of small and delicate parts in this set, some experience with etched metal may be needed to use the set to full advantage. On the other hand, even selective use of parts will go a long way to enhancing the cockpit of your 1/32 Airacobra. The detail in this set is stunning.
