Here are some pictures of my recently completed 1/48 scale Classic Airframes Grumman Widgeon.
I have built the model in the colors of Tourist Air Travel NZ LTD a small airline operated from Mechanics bay Auckland NZ in the 1950s and 1960s. This airline was well known for its Chief Pilot Fred Ladd, who became a household name in Auckland and the rest of NZ.
His swansong with TAT was to fly under the Harbour bridge in Auckland which almost cost him his license but was let of with a warning .
The Widgeon soldiered on in the Auckland skies for many years with various operators until the helicopter took over its role and the Widgeon faded away. I always remember them well and would love to see one back in the air over the Waitemata harbour .
This was a very easy build for a Classic Airframes kit.
The fit was great with very little filling needed.
Parts are available for two versions of Widgeon with a separate hull insert to complete the type.
The nose art was done by my wife and decals printed on clear decal sheet by local IPMS friends.
