Of all of the subjects one could expect from a resin producer, a Gloster Gamecock has to rank amongst the most unlikely of subjects; however this doesn’t make it an unwelcome choice. Montex set the standard of unusual and unexpected choices with the recent release of the Boomerang in 1:32nd, so the Gamecock shouldn’t be all that surprising really. Given the high quality of the Boomerang, expectations were justifiably high with this release, and fortunately it does not disappoint.

With top rate casting that would rank amongst the best the industry has to offer, the surfaces are smooth and free of any air bubbles, with even the faintest of detail captured with precision and crispness. As an example, the fabric texture surfaces of the wings are captured perfectly.

Detail is one of the most obvious qualities of this model and an aspect that stands out throughout the entire examination of the parts. With beautifully rendered pistons and crank case, the engine is a marvel of engineering and screams out to be assembled. The cockpits tubular framework is accurately reproduced, complimented by a detailed instrument panel along with an incredible looking control stick. This kit has all the right detail in all the right places.

Instructions are concise, clear, and easy to follow, and even the most cursory of examinations shows that this will not be an overly complex nor time consuming build, as the model takes all of 15 or 16 steps to complete. All of the detail is cast in resin and there is no photo-etched fret to contend with, which some will regard as a small blessing I am sure.

As to be expected with a Montex release; there are complete masks provided for two markings options both of them being inter-war years RAF aircraft. The selections are inspired as they are quite colourful and both very interesting. The painting instructions are in colour, which is a nice touch in itself, and are as simple to follow as the instruction sheet.

Conclusion

While this release may not have been at the top of every modellers “wish list” it is certainly a very noteworthy and welcome addition, and die to the high quality of casting and the amazing detail throughout, it is a subject that will hopefully draw some of those who would not have previously considered such and esoteric subject into modelling it.

Highly Recommended
