Colin from Freightdog Productions has supplied
some information and images about their next full resin kit, due for release
late this year:
Following on from the success of our first release, the Saro SR177,
Freightdog Models latest ‘What-If’ project plane in 1/72nd, the Hawker P1154
is progressing well. Mastered and cast in resin by Anigrand Craftworks,
unfortunately it will not be on sale at Scale Model World, but we hope to
have a pre-production example on display, with release hopefully soon after.
The initial boxing includes Fantasy Printshop decals for two RAF options,
numbers 1 and 17 Sqn in service from the early 1970's. This boxing will be
limited to 200 kits - definitely one to park next to your Airfix TSR-2.
Most modellers will be aware of the Hawker P1154, the original multi-role
'Harrier' with supersonic performance thanks to its complicated PCB system
(plenum chamber burning), that was cancelled in February 1965, in favour of
a simplified development of the Hawker Kestrel that evolved into the Hawker
Harrier GR.1 and USMC AV-8A.
Not so many will be aware of just how far the P1154 project had advanced at
the time of its cancellation, with with five thousand men directly involved
and seven hundred and fifty thousand man hours devoted to the project. We
have been very lucky to have access to a lot of detailed information,
courtesy of Harrier expert Michael J Pryce, making this the most accurate
kit to date of the proposed RAF version. If enough interest is generated
with the first release an export version with follow, and possibly the twin
seat RAF trainer that also made it to an advanced stage. There are no
current plans to produce the twin seat Royal Navy version, as this is a
vastly different machine that was cancelled at a much earlier stage in its
development, although Mikes research has uncovered Naval interest in the RAF
version, namely from the RAN, so we know which version Brett might be
building!
