Yellow Wings Decals
continues its recent trend toward complete packages with a selection
of markings for SB2U-1/2 Vindicators. These were
amongst the last of the vibrant Yellow Wing era schemes, in the
"Neutrality Patrol" period before the outbreak of the Pacific War.
This sheet also includes a single early example of the new gray
scheme too.
The
five
specific markings schemes offered are:
-
SB2U-1 - a Marines machine at MCAS Quantico, Va 1940 with a red,
white and blue rudder
-
SB2U-2 - VF-2 USS Lexington Utility Hack in July 1939 with Lemon
Yellow tail with twin red LSO stripes and fuselage code 2-F-19
-
SB2U-2 - CV-5 Air Group Commander USS Yorktown, 1939, with red
tail and diagonal fuselage band
-
SB2U-2 - CV-7 Air Group Commander USS Wasp 1939, with black tail
and diagonal fuselage band, and
-
SB2U-2 - the single overall non-spec grey example, Commander
Tactical Unit One Battle Force Pacific Fleet 1941 coded TU-1.
All individual markings are supplied for the
five aircraft, plus one full set of national
markings for the wings and fuselage; red, white and blue rudder
stripes; multiple sets of propeller tips and logos; and fuselage bands in
Insignia Red and Black. You will be able to finish any one of the
five aircraft with the markings supplied, or more if you source
additional national markings
Five of the six pages of instructions
provide three-view black and white drawings of each individual
subject. The final page offers a list of suggested model paint matches to official
United States Navy and United States Marine Corps colours (Testor,
Tamiya, and Gunze).
The recommended kits
are from the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 scale Vindicator family.
The decals, printed by Microscale, are supplied on a single sheet, and
are in perfect register.
Yellow Wings has
delivered another excellent, well-researched and comprehensive
package for the the SB2U Vindicator.
Highly
Recommended.
