The F-22 is now the premier USAF front line service fighter. Tyndall
was one of the first bases to receive the full rate production
Raptor, back in 2003.
Known as the "Mere Mortals" Squadron, the 43rd Fighter Squadron, of
the 325th Fighter Wing, focuses on Air Dominance training.
Two Bobs is the first decal company to cover the Raptor in both 72nd
and 48th scale. This Tyndall F-22 sheet is the fourth Raptor decal
sheet in Two Bob's F-22 decal line. Three aircraft from the 43rd FS
of Tyndall AFB are featured. Included on one decal sheet are three
F-22A aircraft subjects, but only stencil data for two complete
aircraft in 48th scale. In the 72nd sheet are both markings and
complete stencil data for all three aircraft. Markings include the
325th Flagship, the 43rd Flagship, and a standard line jet.

The F-22's stenciling is still a somewhat contradictory affair. Even
being a Crew Chief on the jet, I still find minor dissimilarities in
this area. I worked with Bob Sanchez, in concert with another Crew
Chief from Nellis, to nail down the stenciling applications in the
first three F-22 decal sheet issues. The end result was the most
comprehensive stencil data made for the F-22 in both 48th and 72nd
scale.
The instructions provide photographs of the real aircraft for
reference. Both instructions sheets are identical, aside from the
available kits and aftermarket sets listed. The decals are sized for
the Italeri F-22 kits in both scales.
The standard F-22A camouflage color pattern is given, as well as
clear placement of all markings. The F-22's gray camouflage is based
on the Mod Eagle paint scheme. As far as replicating the metallic
sheen, the modeler may want to mix and match the grays by adding
metallic paint or pigment.
One technical note not mentioned in the instructions is that from
F-22 serial numbers 0039 on up, do not have the upper air intake
auxiliary doors. Simply fill these in on the model, if building a
post SN 0038 F-22A.
Highly recommended.
My thanks to Two Bobs Decals for the review sample.
