Having previously provided a range of options for USMC D model Hornets, MAW Decals now takes on the C model Hornet as the subject of their second 1/72 release.

Four options are provided on this sheet, all printed on one A5 size sheet.

The subjects are:

  • F/A-18C 164265 from VMFA-122 Crusaders from January 2004, the squadron colour jet.
  • F/A-18C 164278 from VMFA-122 Crusaders also from January 2004, this time a line jet in lo-viz grey markings.
  • F/A-18C 164871 from VMFA-251 Thunderbolts, July 2001. This subject is also a squadron colour jet.
  • F/A-18C 163758 from VMFA-212 Lancers, May 2003. This one being another ordinary lo-viz grey jet.

All subjects have large clear instructions associated with them including full colour profiles of both sides. In addition there are notes which highlight the appropriate niggly little Hornet features associated with each airframe including swept antennas, GPS dome, AIFF antennas, which model of ejection seat and finally early or late style centre-line pylon. All prove very useful for getting a model spot-on.

MAW’s sheets are very well printed by Microscale, being very thin and with minimal carrier film.

For those interested in interesting alternatives for the Hasegawa and Fujimi 1/72 Hornet kits, these decals will be hard to pass up.

Highly Recommended.

Thanks to MAW Decals for the review sample.
