Eagle Cals #104
- P-47D Thunderbolt are available online from Squadron.com
Eagle Cals has introduced another fine quality decal sheet into their
range this time depicting schemes for three P47D Thunderbolts of the
United States Air Force.
The decals are designed
for the new Hasegawa or Trumpeter 1/32 scale kits. The decals, supplied
on two full-sized sheets, are superbly printed with good colour
saturation and excellent register. The carrier film is ultra thin and my
experience with the EagleCal decals that I have used in the past is that
the decals have to be handled carefully and snuggle down into the
surface detail well. The carrier film then almost totally disappears
under a coat of clear.
Markings are provided for
3 aircraft as follows:
-
P-47D-28-RE Sno 44-19965 B8*C ‘Chief Seattle ‘of the 362nd Fighter
Group flown by Lt Joseph Murphy. The Aircraft is finished in natural
metal with an olive drab anti glare panel. The aircraft has the
cockpit canopy frame and nose cowl finished in yellow while the tail
is finished in red and black.
-
P-47D-30-RA Sno 44-32773 4P*S ‘Big Ass Bird ‘of the 406th Fighter
Group flown by Major Howard Parks. The Aircraft is finished in
natural metal with an olive drab anti glare panel. The aircraft has
the nose cowl finished in red while the tail is finished in red and
black and yellow. The aircraft has fuselage D-Day stripes with the
words ‘Big Ass Bird’ finished in yellow applied to the fuselage
side.
-
P-47D-30-RE Sno 44-20344 #54 ‘Norma/Little Bunny/Big Ass Bird ‘of
the 57th Fighter Group flown by Lt William “Willy” Lyke. The
Aircraft is finished in RAF Green upper surfaces and Medium Sea Grey
lower surfaces. The aircraft has the Leading edge of the nose cowl
finished in red while the tail and wings have yellow identification
stripes.
A history sheet is
provided with some in service photographs and some very good historical
data on each aircraft. The instruction sheet is nicely printed in colour
giving good decal placement details.
