Outstanding research and first-rate artwork have always been hallmarks of EagleCals decals. EagleCals' 100th release celebrates this impressive tradition.

More than just a decal set, EagleCals has delivered a self-contained research and marking package for four of Major George Preddy's colourful P-51 Mustangs, plus a unique shark-mouth P-51B - the sole shark-mouth Mustang of the 352nd FG.

The booklet, authored by Mark Proulx and Sam Sox Jr., is far more than a decal placement guide. It comprises 24 pages in letter-sized format, with 36 wartime photos of the various subject aircraft. A number of these are in full colour - a real treat.

Every detail of the colours and markings, including victory marks, crew names and stencils, are covered. Of particular interest is the research into the two different shades used for the distinctive blue noses of 352nd FG Mustangs. The early colour was lighter than the late versions. The booklet provides a process-printed paint chips for both shades, and suggests model paint matches from the Model Master, Vallejo, Mister Kit and Tamiya ranges.

All five aircraft are featured in colour profiles by Tom Tullis. These are fully rendered artworks with authentic light and shade. Even the stressed metal of the fuselage is depicted.

The decals are available in 1/32, 1/48 or 1/72 scales. My sample is 1/72. Many of the markings are very small in this scale, but they are in perfect register and legible under magnification. A full set of national markings plus stencils are also supplied on the sheet.

EagleCals' timing of this release is good, with the recent release of Dragon's new 1/32 scale P-51D Mustang. Modellers also have a good selection of kits in 1/48 scale (Hasegawa and Tamiya) and 1/72 scale (Tamiya) too.

Conclusion

EagleCals' 100th decal release is a comprehensive package that will be warmly welcomed by all fans of USAAF fighters over Europe. The printing of the decals and the quality of the booklet are certainly up to the very high standards expected from this company.

Highly Recommended.
