Another of the newly released resin conversion/upgrade sets from the
Republic of Korea based company Wolfpack-designs. This time, you are
provided with resin parts to convert the 1/48 scale Hasegawa F-16A/B kit
into an Israeli Defence Force F-16A/B IDF 'Netz'.
The
set comprises ten resin parts in total but you only need to use nine to
complete the conversion.
Here
is what you get:
-
Radome
-
Ventral
chaff/flare dispensers for fuselage
-
Vertical
stabiliser chaff/flare dispensers
-
Pave Penny antenna
and pod
-
Israeli Global
Positioning Satellite (GPS) antenna
-
Blade antenna x 2
(but you only need one of them).
The
set is cast in a mid grey coloured resin reminiscent of the type used by
Cutting Edge and Aires. The exterior surfaces of the parts have a
slight silky texture when compared to the kit parts that they are to
replace. The casting is first rate too with no pinholes or miscasts
evident.
The
parts themselves are very well detailed with the radome exhibiting the
raised reinforcement strips and the chaff/flare dispensers being
depicted as “loaded”. The tip of the radome has been cast so as the tip
is hollow to accept the pitot tube supplied with the Hasegawa kit.
These resin parts (except the antennas) have been cast on a plinth so as
there is a definite parting line cast in place to ease removal and
clean-up.
Support information/assembly instructions comprise a small folded page
that has colour photos of the parts cleaned up and in-place on the
Hasegawa kit to guide you with placement. The sheet also provides a
list of references as well as a list of other resin updates and decal
sheets available for the F-16 in 1/48 scale in general as well ‘Netz’
specific ones.
The
parts are packed into a clear plastic zip-loc bag which is then placed
into an acetate blister pack along with the instructions/support
information sheet.
This
is an excellent conversion set and well worth the $12.00USD that
Wolfpack Designs is asking for it.
Recommended.
Postscript
For those who are not familiar with the F-16A/B Netz I can recommend a
visit to the F-16.Net website at
http://www.f-16.net/ . It truly is “The Ultimate F-16 Reference” on
the net. Type the word Netz into their search engine and you will be
rewarded with some comprehensive information!
