Royale Resin has cast replacement wheels for some subjects where the kit
supplied plastic wheels are lacking is detail.
Cast crisply in cream coloured resin, Royale Resins wheels have subtle flattened
areas with the associated bulging to replicate the aircrafts weight. This is an
area that is sometimes overdone by some aftermarket moulders and they make the
tyres look like they need to be inflated, but Royale Resin has captured the
effect nicely.
The wheels are attached to small casting blocks at the flattened area for
simplicity of removal. All three sets provided for review are mastered by
Douglas Y Smith IV and he has captured all of the fine hub and brake details
beautifully.
The only other requirement is for the modeller to drill a hole to the diameter
and the depth required to install it onto the kit undercarriage oleo leg.
F-105 Thunderchief Wheels
These are designed to replace the Monogram 1/48 F-105 family of
Thunderchiefs. These wheels have nice hub detail but no brake detail and I am
assuming that the brake detail is moulded to the Monogram undercarriage oleo
legs.
A-10 Thunderbolt Wheels (image at top of page)
These are designed to replace the all 1/48 A-10 Thunderbolt
kits. These wheels have nice hub detail and have the brake detail included so
some kits may require some minor surgery if the brake detail is moulded to the
undercarriage oleo legs.
V-22 Osprey Wheels
These are designed to replace the 1/48 Italeri V-22 A10 Osprey
Kit. These wheels have nice hub detail and have brake the detail included. Nice
colour instructions showing the assembly to the kits undercarriage legs along
with the hole diameters to be drilled are provided for this set.
These wheels are a welcome addition from Royale Resin and will add some extra
detail to these kits. These require a low level of modelling experience to
install the wheels as they only require the removal of the casting block and the
drilling of the hole for installation.
