Upgrades for Airfix Kits

Pavla, 1/48 scale

Hasegawa's new 1/48 scale Harriers are great kits - as long as you don't want an early British variant or a Sea Harrier. If that is the case, then it will mean a walk down memory lane to Airfix's old Harrier GR.Mk.3, Sea Harrier FRS.1 or their FA.2.

These kits are generally accurate in outline but lacking in detail and options.

Out of the blue, Pavla has released four new accessory sets to suit these old Airfix kits. All are moulded in Pavla's customary pale yellow resin, and the parts are perfectly cast.

Pavla U 48-20 - Harrier and Sea Harrier Intakes and Exhaust Nozzles (pictured at top of page)

This upgrade provides replacement nozzles (superior to the Airfix parts), plus the main intakes with open blow-in doors. This will be much easier than cutting all those tiny openings and scratch building 16 small doors!

Although the header card states "starboard intake", both intakes are, in fact. included.

Pavla U 48-21 - Harrier and Sea Harrier Control Surfaces

This set includes a replacement set of all-flying tail planes, cast with rubbing plates in place and recessed panel lines, plus flaps with separate actuators. This upgrade is worthwhile for the tail planes alone, but the ability to drop the flaps will be very welcome.

Pavla's new suite of upgrades and accessories will breathe new life into your old 1/48 scale Airfix Harrier or Sea Harrier.

I am certainly glad that I did not finish that Airfix Sea Harrier FA.2 that I started about five years ago!
