Crisply moulded in pale grey resin, Cutting Edge has released an F-15
Eagle 600 Gallon "WRM" Drop Tank (War Reserve Materiel "combat tank").
There are 4 parts to the set these being 2 tank halves and the rear ball
and socket mount. On comparison to the tanks in my 1/32 scale Tamiya
F-15C the tank is identical except that the cutting edge tank has no
rear aerodynamic cone fitted and, similar to the late F-16 tanks, the
rear curved pressure bulkhead is visible. I can find no reference for
photographs or details on the tanks use or fitment but I presume that
there was a shortage of F-15 drop tanks during the last Gulf War causing
some war reserve stock to be issued and these appear to have not been
fitted with the rear aerodynamic streamlined cone.
The casting block for the tank halve is quite heavy and will require
some care to remove.
The detail included for the rear ball and socket fitting is quite
detailed but one confusing thing is the instructions supplied show the
tank with the rear aerodynamic streamlined cone fitted making it
difficult to determine the exact location of the mounting bracket on the
tank.
Modellers with a little modelling skill should be able to install this
detail set to the 1/32 scale F-15s and I am not sure of the tanks
applicability to the F-4 Phantom where F-15 tanks were carried on the
centreline pylon.
In summary, this tank will enhance any 1/32 F-15C or E but check your
references for applicability.
Recommended.
