Nieuport 17

Eduard's 1/48 scale Nieuport 17 Late Version is available from Squadron for less than $9.00!

Description

Here is my Eduard 1/48 Nieuport 17.

The kit is the Profipack version and contains all the photo-etch that you will need to detail the model.

I built this Nieuport basically out of the box, the only change being to the center section. The kit has been molded with the area from the front spar forward to the leading edge solid. I carved away the plastic to leave enough to represent the spar and the leading edge bull-nosing was created with some round plastic rod. Sub-spars and guy wires were added in the open area and the entire cell was covered in plastic shrink wrap and glued down with metal foil adhesive. The plastic was stretched as it was applied but it was necessary to hit it with a hair dryer to shrink it tight.

The final finish is my own mix of Floquil Old Silver and Floquil Crystal Coat.

The kit decals were used to represent the aircraft flown by Charles Nungesser.

Monofilament thread was painted silver and used for rigging.
