French Navy Catapult

Azur's 1/48 scale Loire 130 M is available online from Squadron.com

Description

Here is my build of the photo-etched catapult in 1/48 scale from AJP Model.

The kit is composed of:

  • 48 photo-etched parts

  • 6 resin parts,

  • 1 aluminium part,

  • 2 brass stems,

  • 1 screw and

  • 1 disc.

Dimensions are 80 mm high and 458 mm length, with the diameter of the kiosk being 103 mm.

Before going further in the assembly, you provide with the tools necessary to this one:

  • A grip to cut brass

  • A soldering iron from 30 to 40 Watts maximum

  • Welding tin with scouring heart

  • Metal grips

  • A set square

This is the catapult which was on the back of the cruisers "Strasbourg and Dunkirk" in 1940. We can use this with the Azur and FM Loire kits, which were presented in October here on HyperScale.

The catapult is painted of color mixture mixture of: U.S. Medium Gray and Dark Sea Gray. I faded the colours with with Medium Sea Gray.

This is certainly not a model for the beginner, although the assembly is not very complicated.

Some among you will want to add more detail.

For my part I took much pleasure throughout this assembly. It only now remains to add to one of the Loire 130 available on the market.
