This 1/48 Aeroclub Canberra B(I).88 was built from a modified
Canberra B.2 kit. This model was built when it was the only kit
available until the release of the Classic Airframes Kit.
It is a not an easy kit to work with, but the quality of its parts is
appreciated. The kit contains metal, resin and vacuum formed parts.
The most difficult part was to work with the vacuum form parts and
make them to fit right. The other step that took me some time, was the
modification of the forward fuselage since I wanted a B(I).88 version.
The canopy for the version I wanted, is offset to the port side of the
aircraft, while in the B.2 it is in the center. I glued the two halves
of the nose section together, and then sealed off the canopy opening
with sheet styrene. White putty was used and then sanded to achieve the
desired shape. Using a Dremel, the repositioned canopy opening was done.
After that I had to scratch some parts to make the new pilot's office.
The rest of the kit was built following the instruction just adding some
scratch parts in the wheel bays. Also antennas and other small details
were made from scratch.
Fellow modeler Pedro Urbano helped me with the new "fighter-type"
canopy. Gabriel Lee helped and assisted me in publishing an article in
IPMS U.S.A. JOURNAL, November-December 2006 edition.
I hope you enjoy it, and happy modeling!
