C-47 "The Voice"

Minicraft's 1/144 scale DC-3 is available from Squadron.com

Description

Here are some pics of my latest bird, a 1/144 scale Academy DC-3 that I turned into a C-47 flown by the “Armée de l’Air” in Indochina in 1952-1953.

Lent by the USAF, this very special airplane was equipped with 48 loudspeakers in a container fitted under its belly. It was used for psychological warfare by the French and later on by the Vietnamese Air Force.

The airplane bears a rather unusual mix of Vietnamese and French national markings, anti Viet-Minh propaganda slogans on the fuselage and under wings, oversprayed USAF logos, as well as the beginning of a civilian registration (Fox – Sierra ??) !

I airbrushed the Vietnamese and French flags and used Microscale 1/72 white letters for the slogans. The landing lights are MV-lenses (Railway modelling supply) under a square of Scotch tape that I masked before painting. The loudspeaker rack is obtained out of Evergreen plastic strips sand in shape.

I always dreamt to build this airplane in 1/48 but this is a more ambitious project…

Special thanks to my friend Viet Nguyen for the translation.
