Introduction

Here is the venerable Monogram F-101B. This kit was first released, I think, in 1982 and is still going strong. It remains the only show in town for 1/48 scale Voodoos. Nothing much but the decal sheets has changed on this kit over the last 20 years or so, but if retooled, I think it would be a superb model.

Veteran modelers will probably remember when Monogram was the standard for cockpit detail-it wasn't always accurate, but it was always nicely done and great for drybrushing! But so much for nostalgia.

Construction

This model was built for the 'Canadiana' section of the Maritime Modeler's Meet for 2002. It wasn't meant to be a show stopper, just to have good paint job and a neat finish.

The model is very literally 'straight from the box'.

Painting and Markings

The overall painting was done with Testor's Aircraft Grey Gloss. Testor does produce a Canadian Voodoo Grey, but I couldn't wait to procure it. The CVG, I believe has an ever-so-slightly bluer tone.

Decaling was done with the Belcher decal sheet BD-9 - CF-101 Voodoos. Any operational
CF-101 can be built up from this sheet!

My Voodoo represents CF-101B 101025, based at CFB Chatham in 1984. Chatham is several hundred miles north-west of Halifax, in the Province of New Brunswick.

Chatham Voodoos made their last flights in 1984 and the airbase was subsequently closed. However, one of Chatham's Voodoos can still be seen in commemorative markings at the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum adjacent to the Halifax International Airport.

Man, what a beast. The Lynx still lives!
