Revell's
1/72 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 is available online from Squadron
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is my favorite plane and
1/72 is my scale, so when the ProModeler Bf 109G-10 was released I was
very excited. This quickly faded when I carefully checked out the pieces
in the box. But hey...don't we BUILD models. At least the shape seemed
accurate.
I
detailed the kit pieces as follows:
-
Opened the air
intake and corrected the shape as per Jim Kitchens IPMS article
-
Boxed in the
wheel wells
-
Cut out the
rudder balance and added the weight to the rudder
-
Thinned the
trailing edges of the wing and the landing gear humps
Then I added as follows:
-
used propellers
blades from a resin aftermarket
-
used the True
Details interior after thinning the sides of the kit pieces with a a
Dremel
-
built new landing
gear from brass rod and wire (the kit gear is so delicate and I hate
for struts to beak after the model is built!)
-
ground out the
gun troughs with the Dremel and added tubing for gun barrels
-
deepened the oil
cooler and added a door
-
used Squadron
canopy for the opening part.
The
model is painted with Testor's Model Master colors using the Aeromaster
decal sheet as a reference. I know there's no photos of this plane, but
I like this scheme!
The "tulips" are black and white decal film cut
individually and then placed black on the white.
The red struts are for 100 octane fuel required for this versions engine
and adds much to the model.
The kit makes up into a beautiful model but alas, look at Revell's
Fw190A and think of what Monogram could have done!
