Here are two models that are unlike the usual P-40s.
XP-40Q from Pegasus
The first one, the sleek and elegant XP-40Q, is a Pegasus kit, with
modified fuselage liquid-cooler air intake and whole wing coolers,
exhaust pipes changed to Moskit (glued in every pipe one by one),
cockpit interior made with MPM resin, wheels and legs from AML, and
photoetched wheel wells, flaps and its wells from Eduard.
This model was painted with Alclad II and Tamiya paints. Unfortunately
the decals were useless, so I printed serial number on a white decal and
cut off every digit. Stars are from a Techmod decal set.
Twin-engine P-40C, Academy kit conversion
The second one is modified from the old and very bad 1/72 scale
Academy kit. Cockpit interior was made using AMLs resin, Squadron
canopy, and parts made from scratch. The aircraft's nose and elongated
engine nacelles were sculpted by myself, and duplicated in resin.
Engines are improved resin replicas of the MPMs P-40F/L ones. Moskit
exhaust pipes were copied in resin and glued in one by one. The kit has
implanted Academy’s empennage, and again wheels and legs are resin from
AML kit.
The model was painted with various paints (Humbrol, Pactra) to
represent various shades of added parts, as it was on original picture.
