Ozmods from Australia is a new company. If you want
more details you can check the kit review by Brett Green.
I built their 1/144 scale
F-86 kit straight from the box and only added some detail behind the
seat and fuel tanks. This is my first kit from Oz Mods so here are the
bad and good points. Actually, there are no really bad points but
you need take some care with the following:
-
the cockpit tub and
front whell box fitting in the fuselage( you need sand the walls of
fuselage and try test the fit until the fuselage parts joint)
-
be careful with tail
fuselage joint (if possible reinforce this area,I use CA glue and
sand)
-
after fuselage sides
are glued you need sand the interior area until the wing fits together
-
I reshaped the fuel
tanks and added new fins
Paint and Decals
I rescribed all the panel lines, so I sanded and
polished the entire kit before airbrushing a coat of Mr.Surfacer 1000
and used Modelmaster Metalizer aluminium (non buffing) and Gunze
Aluminium then applied a coat of ModelMaster sealer.
If you are not satisfied with the yellow color on
the decals, you can do as I did. I masked the original decals in the
sheet with silk screen clear mask. I repainted with ModelMaster acrylics
yellow (I chose chrome yellow after comparison with insignia yellow)
then I oversprayed a coat of varnish. For the fuselage band you can
paint a clear film with the same paint and cut a V and apply this V in
the kit so when the sides of this V cover the fuselage sides cut and add
a retangular band to complete the ventral area ,for the black stripes I
cut from black solid decal.
In the final analysis I am very satisfied with this
kit. It looks like a Sabre. There are some minor fitting problems but
the final result is a decent Sabre . I am looking forward to the next
releases from OZmods.
