Academy's 1/48 scale F-86F Sabre is available online from Squadron

Description

Attached are 4 images of my friend Mark Oliver's 1/48 scale Academy F-86F kit. This is Mark's first attempt at a NMF aircraft. He used SNJ as the base with Testor's Metalizer for the dissimilar panel effect. Mark trimmed as much clear film as possible from the Eagle Strike decals. He says that they did not fit well on the underside of the fuselage and wing tanks. The Eagle Strike instructions suggest Hasegawa's F-86 so a better fit can be expected on that kit.

Mark used the Jaguar cockpit set. His set did not come with any instructions so he was on his own getting it to fit. Mark had to eliminate the 50 cal. guy bay detail ( including cutting away the compartments on both fuselage halves) included with the Academy kit so that the resin cockpit tub would fit inside the fuselage. Other than that there were no other problems with the model..

The members of IPMS/Boise selected Mark as the most improved modeler at our February meeting. We were all amazed with his perfect finish and we were glad to present him with the Modeler Of The Month Award. Mark's F-86 took a First Place at the 2002 Seattle Spring Show as well. The pictures were taken by myself with a Cannon Pro90 IS.
