Here
are some pictures of my 1/48 Monogram F-4J Phantom II that I built last
year. While the kit is showing its age, it still builds up into a pretty
decent model with some work for not a lot of cash. The major problem
areas are the intakes and the forward fuselage. Lots of putty and
sanding required.
I detailed the kit seats a bit with some bits and pieces from the spares
box. The pilots are from various Hasegawa kits with the heads
repositioned and new O2 hoses made from solder. Shoulder straps are lead
foil with wire D-rings and orange wire representing the knife attached
to the parachute risers.
The ordinance is from Hasegawa. I used the liquid glue technique to give
the Mk-82 Snakeyes their texture. Wire was added to simulate arming
wires.
I used Model Master paints throughout. The plane got a heavy dose of
weathering using old thinner washes and pastels. The markings for VF-114
Aardvarks came from Superscale decals.
While the end result isn’t a masterpiece it nonetheless brought home a
3rd place award in the first contest I ever entered. It is presently on
display at BTB Hobbies in Little Rock, AR. I hope you all like it.
