D4Y3 Suisei (Judy)

Here is Chris Wauchop's 1/48 scale D4Y3 Suisei (Judy) from Fine Molds. This is the radial engine variant, developed from the earlier in-line model.

The kit represents a kamikaze aircraft of a Special Attack Squadron with rocket packs strapped to the bottom of the fuselage. Chris omitted the fittings in the rear fuselage in consideration of the aircraft's one-way mission. The model was built almost straight from the box, with the kit decals being used for the markings.

Fine Mold's Judy kits are very nice indeed, and have recently been re-issued with plastic parts replacing white metal details provided with the original releases. The new price is much lower than the original releases too.
