This is the AA Models 1/48 scale Nanchung A-5C "Fantam".
The model is little more than a toy, so I did a lot of work
to bring up to acceptable standards. While the panel lines and rivets are
grossly out of scale, its a nice effect in the end.
I constructed a cockpit from scratch and used portions of a
MiG-19 seat from the old Gremlin kit. I added a few details here and there and
blocked off the intakes with covers since I didn't want to construct the
trunking. I did blank off the open areas behind the intakes which would have
allowed the viewer to see through the model.
Decals are from Tiger Wings, and were really intended for a
MiG-19, but the scheme is fairly close to what the US aviation press documented
on aircraft operating in S.E. Asia in the late 70's. MiG-19s also carried this
scheme.
