Background

The T-2C Buckeye is another favorite of mine that has been ignored by the big companies. Collect-Aire came to my rescue again with a 1/48 scale rendering.

This is one of their earlier efforts. It is not as good as their later products but it is has an accurate outline and proportions. In reality this is my minimum requirement. I can do the rest, but I fall short when I have to redesign or totally reshape contours.

The kit fuselage comes in three pieces. Left and right front and solid rear. The wings are solid too which makes for a pretty heavy model. I had to go through some work to get the fuselage together but this is why we have Dremel and sandpaper. The electronic access hatches are molded in the fuselage and they are reasonably accurate judging from the 'must have' Steve Ginter book on the Buckeye. The metal parts were good and necessary to support the weight of the kit.

The decals are enlarged versions of the Matchbox Buckeye decals but of much better quality. They went down fine with no silvering.

All in all, this was a very rewarding kit to build despite its difficulties.
