Tamiya's 1/48
scale F-51D is

Here is Tamiya's 1/48 scale F-51D built as an Australian P-51K.
I used the True Details cockpit and wheels.
I wanted to build my Mustang as true to the original as possible,
meaning natural metal fuselage and painted aluminium wings. I filled all
the panel lines on the wings with super glue and sanded them smooth,
leaving only gun bays and small access hatches on the upper and lower
wings, and fuel tanks on the lower wings.
The wings, undercarriage doors and rudder were painted with Floquil
Bright Silver, a railroad paint. This gives a good simulation of painted
aluminium. I used Alclad Highly Polished Aluminium for the fuselage.
I did not weather this model because all my reference photos show that
the aircraft of this Squadron were kept in immaculate condition.
Decals are from Ventura.
