The development of the Junkers 88 started in 1935 as a fast-bomber.
After introduction the Ju88 envolved in a multi-role combat aircraft
owing to its excellent basic airframe design.
Production of the G series aircraft, the definitive night fighters,
started in 1943 with the G-1. In this G-series the tail planes were
replaced by the enlarged ones with a square tip similair to those of the
Ju188, and further, a large belly gun pack housing with four 20 mm
cannons was attached while the nose gondola was removed.

These modifications gave a streamlined appearance to the Ju 88. The
G-6 was the second and last production model powered by a pair of
Junkers Jumo213A liquid-cooled engines driving a VS-111 paddle blade
propellers.
The Ju88-G6 was the most common used German night fighter at the end
of World War 2.
