F-4E Phantom II

by Paul Stoner

McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom II

Description

This F-4E was built using Tamiya's 1/32nd scale F-4J and some parts from the F-4C kit as well.

All of the conversion except the nose is from Cutting Edge. Seats and decals are from are from CAM # 32-037A. This sheet has markings for 2 Turkish, Greek, and Iranian aircraft. The Eduard PE set for the F-4J was also used.

A lot of the cockpit was scratchbuilt and the project was hurried up for a local contest.

I learnt a tough lesson this time about patience, and not getting to far ahead of one self. This conversion is not as simple as one might think, and there is a lot of dry fitting that is needed especially with the inboard slats.

Model Masters enamels were used for painting and weathering with chalk and felt markers.

This F-4E was acquired from the New Jersey National Guard and the tiger was carried over until the airframe was refurbished and repainted in the SEA scheme.
