1/32 scale F-14A Tomcat
is available online from Squadron.com
The photos are of my Revell 1/32 scale F-14A Tomcat
that was built about 6 years ago and is still on prominent display in my
collection.
The model took me about 4 months of on again, off again work and is
basically built out of the box with only minor modifications. This kit
requires a lot of patience to get right but is worth every penny of the
$35 it cost to purchase! Needless to say the molds must have been
getting tired by the time mine was issued because there was a great deal
of flash to contend with, I must have gone through 20 flexi-files while
building it!
The paint finish is Model Master enamel sealed with a couple of coats of
Testors Glosscoat lacquer prior to decaling; and then another on top of
the decals to seal them and make this bird shine a bit. Decals are from
VF-84's marking from Superscale and the Superscale high-vis stencils
were also applied. Total time taken to apply all of the decals was about
4 evenings, there are a lot of stencils on these aircraft. Weathering is
a wash of oil paint and turpenoid with particular attention paid to the
lower parts of the aircraft.
Overall I really enjoyed this project and think it was well worth the
price paid for the kit. I have had many people comment on my "Tamiya"
Tomcat when they see it and it really brings a smile to my face to tell
them that it's really the Revell kit. I guess it just shows what
patience and a bit of detailing can get you.
