This is Eduard's 1/48 Albatros Dr.I Triplane.
Though the design never brought to combat thanks to its tail heavy
nature plus poor pilot's view angle (which made it easy to stall and
hard to land), the model itself is a real gem to behold.
Construction is pretty straightforward with excellent detail
delivered via Eduard's hallmark-- finely made PE set. While much time
was spent on achieving the wood grain on the bare plywood fuselage, the
most time logged to complete the work found struggling with the thick
and stubborn lonzenge decals which covered almost all the model surface
except the fuselage.
Eduard elected to further complicate this task by printing all the
rib tapes on a seperate sheet with all of these tiny strips on a single
carrying film! You get to cut those apart by your own!
The big lonzenge decals reacted poorly to any brand of decal
softener. I tried Gunze Mr.Decal Softener, Modeler's and Micro Sol. My
only choice was to wait a couple of days to let the decals set on their
own.
Other than that, the finished model looks very nice and is well worth
the effort.
