LiM-5

Introduction

Here is my LiM-5 from Airfix in 1/48 scale.

This project was born quite harmlessly after I saw Hi Decal Line's 1/48 scale decal sheet and some detail photos of in an issue of Replic. However, it did not take long to change my mind about building the kit "straight from the box"!

Construction

First I built the cockpit using parts from the Tamiya MiG-15 kit and scratchbuilt items. Fortunately, the cockpits of both aircraft are almost identical. I also built new landing gear, gear bays and afterburner cans.

Finally, I vacformed a new canopy - the only thing the kit item had with the real thing was the name!

Painting and Markings

My model represents the last LiM-5 (the Polish licenced production version of the MiG-17), that flew in Poland. Polish graphic artist Grezyngier created this beautiful scheme for this occasion. The Polish company Hi Decal Line researched this scheme very thoroughly, and the sheet is great.

As always, the paint job was a lacquer finish using a mixture of 50% of Testors Aluminium Metalizer and 50% Sealer.
