Trumpeter's 1/32 scale
TBD Devastator
by Daniel Sauter

This is my build of the Trumpeter 1/32 TBD Devastator finished as a training aircraft as NAS Miami in late summer of 1943.
Although no photos of this aircraft exist, documentation says the last remaining Devastators in USN service were posted to this training base and had been repainted per USN standards of the time, meaning a tri-color scheme of Dark Sea Blue/Intermediate Blue/Insignia White and Freeman Type 3 insignia.

Aftermarket used was the Eduard interior set (which was repainted from zinc chromate yellow to Bronze Green, per USN regulations of the time), Montex masks for the insignia, an SBS Norden bombsight, Tamiya 500lb bombs, and ResKit TBM Avenger wheels.
Kit is finished in Vallejo Model Air and weathered with a heavily thinned burnt umber wash and Tamiya weathering pastels.

This kit was a joy to build aside from the lower fuselage bomber insert, which just didn't seem to want to fit no matter what I did and required multiple filling and sanding sessions.
This is a large aircraft, and Trumpeter did a pretty good job here.
Despite first glances, this is not a Dauntless!
