The actions of 75 and 76 squadrons in defending Papua New Guinea and Northern Australia against the Japanese sweeping south was the stuff of legends and this sheet allows the modeller to produce some of the well-documented aircraft from 75 Sqn.
Milne Bay and the operations of both 75 and 76 squadrons in harassing the enemy was crucial in the slowing and later withdrawal of Japanese forces.
This small (100x50mm) sheet of quality high gloss decals covers three ex-USAAF P40E Kittyhawks that were received by the RAAF between May and July 1942.
The decals have been screen printed and each decal is printed with its individual carrier film (i.e., there is no contunuous carrier film over the entire sheet).
The eight A4 page booklet gives the background to the Milne Bay operations, individual aircraft histories and detailed colour and marking information, especially variations that apply to each one as they changed through time. These aircraft were painted in US approximations of Australian colours.. Each aircraft is covered in great detail with period photos, camouflage colours and marking diagrams and notes, all drawings are in full colour.
The three aircraft are:
-
A29-99/P - ‘Cleopatra’ - in two different marking options,
-
A29-133/S - ‘Polly’ - in three different markings variations, and
-
A29-136/N - ‘Stardust’ - again with three marking variations.
This is a well-researched and presented sheet as we have come to expect from this Aussie company and it will allow modellers of RAAF aircraft to produce an accurate 75 Sqn Kittyhawk.
