F-4B Navy
Eduard, 1/48 scale
Reviewed by Brett Green
Eduard latest 1/48 scale decals cover five new marking options for the F-4B Phantom II in US Navy Service.
These have been specifically designed for the lovely new Tamiya kit.
All five subjects are finished in the standard eary US Navy scheme of Light Gull Grey upper surfaces with White below. There is plenty of colour and variety in the tail and fuselage markings.
The five specific subjects are as follows:
-
BuNo. 151478, VF-84 Jolly Rogers, AG211, USS Independence, South East Asia, The Gulf of Tonkin, 1965. I was a bit doubtful about the depiction of the see-through sections of the Jolly Rogers flag on the tail, but reference photos confirm that this is correct on this Phantom.
-
BuNo. 153020, VF-92 Silver Kings, NG204, USS Enterprise, South East Asia, The Gulf of Tonkin, 1968. Yellow markings, tan radome and pale grey walkways.
-
BuNo. 148417, VF-121 Peacemaker, NJ121, NAS Miramar, USA, 1964. Red tail markings and lightning bolt on the fuselage.
-
BuNo.149461, VF-32 Swordsmen, AB212, USS John F. Kennedy, European and Mediterranean cruise, 1972. Black and yellow tail markings and pale grey walways.
-
BuNo. 153018, VF-114 Aardvarks, NH205, USS Kitty Hawk, South East Asia, The Gulf of Tonkin, 1968.Orange markings, tan radome and dark grey walkways.
The instructions are supplied on six A5-sized pages in full colour. Each subject is covered in four view illustrations - two sides, top and bottom.
Colour callouts are provided for Gunze acrylics, Mr Color lacquers and Mission Models paints.
Three decal sheets are included. They have been printed by Eduard in the Czech Republic.
The decal sheets are glossy and well printed with perfect registration on my sample.
National markings and two styles of walkway are included on the sheet.
Stencil markings are not included, but they are offered on a separate dedicated sheet.
Eduard's decals offer some colourful alternatives for anyone building Tamiya's superb 1/48 scale F-4B Phantom II.
Thanks to Eduard for the sample.
