Designed for their own kit but I’m sure these will fit any Mk.VIII kit, this sheet will provide the modeller interested in the Pacific campaign with a range of nice schemes for their models.

 

 

Contained in a zip-lock bag with a card insert to protect the sheets from damage, are two well-printed sheets for four Australian Spitfires. The smaller sheet has four sets of blue/white roundels and flashes, while the other has all the individual codes, serials, nose art, shark-mouths and stencils for the individual aeroplanes.

 

 

Three are in Ocean Grey/Dark Green over Medium Sea Grey and are :

  • A58-631 , ZP*V of F/L George Scrimgeour , 457sqn, Labuan, Borneo, June 1945 with a shark mouth and ‘Grey Nurse’ text in front of the canopy on both sides,

  • the well-known A58-602 RG*V of W/C Bobbie Gibbes, CO 80 Wing, Morotai, April 1945, with a large shark mouth, ‘Grey Nurse’ script, red spinner, white leading edges to the main planes. and pale blue under the tail and elevators,

  • A58-526, UP*L of 79sqn, Morotai, May 1945 with a scantily-clad lass on the nose urging the onlooker to “Avagrog”and white leading edges to the main planes.

  • The fourth choice is in natural metal, and is A58-379, of F/L David Glaser, 549Sqn, Strauss Airstrip, September 1944 with yellow cannon and spinner.

Colours look to be nicely printed, density is good and carrier film manageable - I would imagine that most modellers will trim inside and around the letters to reduce the possibility of silvering. I like the slightly rough edges to the shark-mouths which make them look like they have been hand-painted.

 

 

The 4-page A5 instructions are a work of art with each example given a full page colour coverage with clear drawings of both upper and lower surfaces and each side of the aircraft. Colours are called in both name and MMP, H and C numbers.

 

Conclusion

 

This is an excellent set of decals for the RAAF Spitfire VIIIs that fought in the South Pacific island campaign. Recommended.
