The Clarkat was a deck tractor used by the Royal Navy on its carrier fleet from 1944 until the mid 1950s.

It was developed from an existing commercial tractor.

Brengun has released a 1/48 scale kit of this appealing little subject. This appears to be a rebox of the excellent F4Models offering from 2013.

The kit comprises 15 parts in grey resin, a small decal sheet and a single page of instructions on a folded A4 sheet.

Casting quality is perfect on my sample, and casting blocks should be easy to remove.

Assembly appears to be very simple, although the modeller will have to sourc their own 1.0mm and 0.5mm rod for the gear shift, steering wheel shaft and hand brake. Recessed holes are cast in place for shafts and pedals.

Decals are supplied for the instrument dials, stencils, serial number and two larger ID numbers.

The simple instructions are supplied on a single side of a folded A4 sheet. These comprise a list of the parts, a single assembly step and marking guide.

My only minor nitpick is that the spelling of the vehicle's name is incorrect on the box and the instructions. It should read Clarkat Type B.

Conclusion

Brengun's 1/48 Clarkat Deck Tractor is an interesting subject and a versatile piece for posing with WWII and Korean War era Royal Navy aircraft.

Thanks to Brengun for the review sample.
