P-51D Engine
for Eduard kit
Eduard BRASSIN, 1/48 scale
Reviewed by Brett Green
Eduard has already released a slew of resin and photo-etched accessories for its P-51D Mustang family.
Undoubtedly the most ambitious of these is their most recent update - a full engine set.
Eduard's BRASSIN 1/48 scale P-51D Mustang Engine comprises 58 parts in grey resin, one brass plated photo-etched fret with 23 additional parts and detailed instructions.
The engine block is cast in a single piece with impressive detail.
Detail is cast onto the bottom of the engine too.
The cowlings feature gorgeous detail inside and out.
The engine bearers are separate parts. Alternative parts are supplied for shrouded or unshrouded exhausts, and for perforated, louvred or blank breather panels. The exhaust stubs are hollowed out at the ends.
Remaining resin parts include oil tank, crank case cover, plumbing and smaller details.
The photo-etched fret offers fine detail parts.
The package is rounded out with heavily illustrated instructions.
There is some surgery required to the kit parts but all the cutting is along panel lines. Assembly should be within the skill set of any modeller who has worked with resin before.
This is a massive upgrade for Eduard's lovely P-51D Mustang kits.
Despite the superb detail present here, Eduard has designed the engine bay to be as simple to build as possible.
This is an impressive package that will fire the modeller's imagination. I can see an abandoned Mustang fuselage in long grass...
Thanks to Eduard for the samples and images.
