Sword's 1/48 scale
Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario

Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario

Description

Here’s my Sword 1/48 scale Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario that I have just finished and photographed. This is a short-run kit without some of the luxuries such as locating pins, but fit is generally very good.

Detail is nice straight from the box but I added the Yahu pre-painted instrument panel and starboard side switch panel.

I also substituted the plastic seat for Ultracast’s Macchi C.202 / C.205 seat. This is close to the seat design used in the Re.2005, and I love Ultracast’s cast-in-place harness straps.

Sword doesn't supply a gunsight so I used a spare REVI gunsight from an Eduard Fw 190 D-9 "Overtrees" box.

Wheel well detail is great, and it all fits between the upper and lower wing halves without any problems.

I also used Montex’s Maxi Mask for the canopy and windscreen.

The kit’s simple plastic gun barrels and pitot tube were replaced with metal tube, and I sanded a flat spot on the bottom of the tyres.

The only fit issue that I had was the upper undercarriage legs. I just needed to slice a wedge from the top to improve the fit.

I tried to enliven the fairly dull camouflage scheme by breaking up the single dark green upper surface colour with layers of subtly different shades.

Kit decals were completely opaque and performed perfectly, although I think the wing roundels are a bit undersized.

I’ll be writing this one up for Issue 186 of Model Airplane International magazine.

Thanks to Sword Models for the sample.
