Revell / ICM scale
Bucker Bu 131 Jungmann
by Brett Green
Meng's 1/48 scale F-35A Lightning II is available online from Squadron for USD$59.99
I have just finished Revell’s rebox of ICM’s 1/32 scale Bucker Bu 131 Jungmann. Despite a relatively small parts count - just 87 parts in grey plastic and four parts in clear - it is a well detailed model and quite an involving build.
I added Quickboost Bu 131 Seats With Seatbelts, Item No. QB 32 219; and Eduard’s Zoom photo-etched fret, Item No. 33193.
Fit is very good throughout but I think the front end is a bit over-engineered with six separate panels making up the nose. ICM supplies a nicely detailed engine but no option to pose the cowlings open.
The wing struts fitted nicely, although I confess I did not enjoy doing the rigging. I used charcoal coloured elastic EZ-Line for the wires. I depicted turnbuckles by applying small blobs of Gator’s Grip acrylic glue near the anchor points for the rigging lines. When dry, the small clear blobs were then painted black along with a short section of line.
Markings were inspired by Antonio Armario’s 1/72 scale Huma Jungmann posted on HyperScale back in 2006:
I sourced the number decals from Print Scale’s 1/32 scale Civil War In Spain. The style is not exactly the same, but I made some modifications to the “3” digits to make it look a bit closer. Stripes are from Fantasy Printshop.
I’ll be writing this one up for a big Feature Article in Issue 179 of Model Airplane International magazine.
