ILD48005a - Mikoyan MiG-19/Shenyang J-6

Iliad Designs have re-printed a previously out of production set of MiG-19/J-6 sheet. Not only have they re-released this set but have managed to redesign the sheet to fit extra markings on taking the set from 5 schemes to 7 but dropping one of the all-natural metal schemes and replacing it with a colourful scheme. This set now provides marking for 7 quite colourful aircraft from a number of different country operators.

The instruction sheet is a double sided A4 sheet with 7 profiles on one side and matching top views on the other side.

The decal sheet is an A5 sheet, with the decals looking to be in perfect register, well laid out with each aircraft’s decals in a marked area on the sheet.

Carrier film is of an absolute minimum which is really pleasing to see. The colours are crisp and bright.

The seven schemes cover:

  • Shenyang J-6 "4126" of 26 Sqn., Pakistan Air Force

  • Shenyang J-6 of the Egyptian Air Force, 1983

  • Shenyang J-6 "10434" of the Pakistan Air Force, bearing both Pakistani and Chinese markings for its retirement ceremony

  • MiG-19S "47" of the Moscow Military District aerobatic display team in the late 1950s and early ‘60s

  • Shenyang J-6 "4-49" of the Albanian Air Force

  • Shenyang J-6 "6066", 925th Fighter Regiment, Vietnamese Peoples’ Air Force, 1972

  • Shenyang J-6 "20708" of the Chinese PLAAF

ILD48034 - Mikoyan MiG-21F-13s

This set of schemes for the early MiG-21F-13’s is a brand new sheet from Iliad Designs. This set now provides marking for 7 aircraft, mainly all natural metal, but with each one from a different country operating these aircraft. The instruction sheet is a double sided A4 sheet with 7 profiles on one side and matching top views on the other side.

The decal sheet is an A5 sheet, with the decals looking to be in perfect register, well laid out with each aircraft’s decals in a marked area on the sheet.

Carrier film is of an absolute minimum which is really pleasing to see and really thin, which will blend in well. The colours are crisp and bright.

The seven schemes are:

  • Shenyang J-7 (MiG 21F-13). Legend reads “Long live Chairman Mao.”

  • MiG 21F-13, Iraqi AF, 1966.

  • Avia S-106 (MiG 21F-13), Syrian AF, 1973.

  • MiG 21F-13, Albanian AF.

  • MiG 21F-13, United Arab Republic AF, Six Day War, 1967.

  • Avia S-106, Czech AF, 1964.

  • MiG 21F-13, North Korean AF.

Conclusion

Both of these sets have been produced using excellent production processes and should give you excellent results when applied to your MiG airframes.

Please note that only aircraft marking are supplied with each set, so data stencils will need to be the kit ones or other aftermarket sets.

These are two great sets from Iliad Design that I highly recommend to the avid MiG-19/21 builders out there, especially the really bright MiG-19 sheet.

Thanks to Iliad Design for the review sample.
