Advantages: Beautifully printed, thin decals covering some interesting subjects.
Disadvantages: Colour printed instructions would be nice, or even a link to a colour version.
Recommendation: Hi-Decal has produced a high quality decal sheet in perfect timing and with some welcome variation for Bobcat Models' 1/48 scale Il-28 Beagle.

Hi-Decal line has released two new decal sheets suitable for the new 1/48 scale Bobcat Models Il-28 Beagle.

Today I am coverign the first set, which is designed for the Il-28 bomber variant. Although the Bobcat kit is labelled as a torpedo bomber, it also contains all the parts necessary to finish it as a standard bomber.

Hi-Decals' Il-28 decals cover four subjects:

  • Il-28 Beagle Red 40, 7th Bomber Brigade, Polish Air Force 1963. Acting as an "agressor" during an international exercise, "red 40" was accidentally rammed by the intercepting Czechoslovak AF MiG-19PM "1002" on April 10th, 1964. -

  • Il-28 Black 1733, Egyptian Air Force, in sand/green camouflage, Kom Awshim AB, 1973

  • Il-28 Black NH-1/01, Target Tug, Finnish Air Force, in aluminum/dayglo scheme, Utti AB, 1968.

  • Il-28 Red 208, Target Towing Wing 33, East German Air Force, in brown/green camouflage, Peenemünde AB, 1980.

Instructions are supplied on one double-sided black and white folded A4 sheet with both side views for the camouflaged aircraft and port side view for the two bare metal subjects.

 

 

Small illustrations of the upper views for all four aircraft plus a stencil placement guide, color callouts for Humbrol and Model Master, recommended references and acknowledgements are included.

 

 

There is no indication as to who has printed the decals but they are luxuriously glossy and colour saturation looks excellent.

 

 

Conclusion

 

Bobcat's 1/48 scale Il-28T is a great kit but the in-box marking options aren't exactly inspiring.

Hi-Decal has produced a high quality decal sheet in perfect timing and with some welcome variation for the Bobcat kit.
