FirstLook

CMK has released some nice simple resin sets to complement the recently updated P-40 series. They have produced some finely reproduced resin seats to cover quite a number of P-40 variants, from the E to the late N-40. As well as seats there are 2 wheel sets covering the diamond and cross treaded wheels used by the P-40’s. All sets are cast in grey resin with minimal clean up and nice crisp detail. All of these new sets have been created from 3D designed and printed masters, which now seems to becoming the norm for these resin casting companies.

CMQ72293 -Curtiss P-40E Warhawk, P-40F, P-40K, P-40L, P-40M and P-40N-1 seat

This seat is the metal seat used in the mid-variant series from the E to the early N versions with the rounded top to the seat. Delicatel detail giving a lovely rendition of the pressed metal seat backs. This seat has no belts but is just asking for some etched belts.

CMQ72294 - Curtiss P-40N-5 through N-40 Warhawk Seat

This is the seat used in the majority of the P-40N range of aircraft with the squared off top to the seat. This resin seat has not belts and again, would need a set of etched, or homemade if you are inclined, belts to finish it off.

CMQ72300 - Curtiss P-40N-5 Warhawk through P-40N-40 Seat with Belts

Same as the above seat but with belts cast onto the seat. Just ready to paint and insert.

CMQ72297 - Curtiss P-40 Wheels-Cross Tread

A very nicely detailed and cast set of cross treaded types that were used on a number of the P-40 variants. Nice depth and fine detail on the seperate spoked wheel hubs which makes painting easier. The set gives you the option of spoked hubs or the plain disc version which enables you to match aircraft and versions. Speaking of which, none of these sets has any suggestion of painting guides to help the modeller. Some basic instructions would certainly help please CMK.

CMQ72298  - Curtiss P-40 Wheels - Diamond and Hole Tread

Another lovely set of alternate wheels for your P-40. This time, the diamond tread wheels used. The detail on this set is really good right down to the small hole that is in the centre of each diamond tread block on the tyre. Again, a choice of the hub style to match variants and actual aircraft.

In conclusion, with some cleaning up of the casting block sections, will see you very nicely detail parts that, if used, will certainly improve the look of your P-40 model.

Although labelled specifically for the Special Hobby kits, they would certainly fit any 1/72 kit that has been produced. These sets are certainly recommended.

Thanks to MPM / Special Hobby for the review sample.
