Description

Here's my latest completion - Eduard's 1/48 scale Hawker Tempest Mk.V Series 2

This is a great kit with some of the nicest surface textures that you will find anywhere, and the fit of the parts is exceptional.

There's some clever engineering here. I liked the very positive way the windscreen and canopy go together, and the undercarriage is quite positive too.

I found the cockpit to be a bit of a challenge. I broke the sidewall frames several times before finally completing the cockpit. Before cutting the frame parts from the sprue, I'd recommend attaching the smaller parts and also painting and weathering the sidewalls while they are still on the sprue. After that, remove them carefully and minimise handling during assembly.

Once the fuselage halves were sealed though, assembly was very fast.

I used a few aftermarket items on this one including Eduard's resin LooK instrument panel; Barracuda Studios' pilot's seat with cast-on harness straps, and also their resin intake, exhaust and wheels.

Markings were sourced from Xtradecals' 1/48 scale decal set X48100, Hawker Tempest Mk.V

This is another terrific kit from Eduard and light years ahead of the older offering.

Thanks to Eduard for the sample.
