Italeri's 1/72 scale
SH 34 G-1 Sea Horse
by Roland Sachsenhofer
Hobby Boss' 1/32 Spitfire Mk.Vb Trop is available online from Squadron
Originally designed for anti-submarine work in the late fifties, the SH-34 grew to one of the more iconic helicopters of the cold war. In various versions it did serve in several armed forces of the western world for decades. During the Vietnam war SH-34 “Choctaws” proved their worth for transport and evacuation duties.
My model depicts a SH-34 of the HTG 61, a helicopter transport unit of the Bundeswehr based at Alhorn in the mid-sixties.
The Italeri kit proves to be quite a fine start for building a “Choctaw” in the small scale. Some enhancements have been made like detailing the interior with an Eduard etched part set or supplementing some hydraulic piping on the fuselage sides. Further wiring has been made on the winch and rotor head.
Aftermarket decals from “HeloStuff” have been used to get this particular SH-34 on the shelf.
The model will find it´s home as an exhibit in the museum of the “Traditionsgemeinschaft Fliegerhorst Alhorn”.
