There are a number of two-seater Me 262 kits currently available in 1/72 scale, including Hasegawa, Heller and HobbyBoss. Airfix will be adding to this list with a new-tool Me 262 B night fighter due for release later this year.
Once again, Xtradecal has a new decal sheet in perfect time for the release of a brand new Airfix kit, this time for two-seater Me 262s.
Day fighter and night fighter schemes are offered here. There is some room for interpretation of the colours of the night fighters (greens / browns vs. greys) and their order of application (dark mottles over RLM 76 vs. pale overspray of day fighter camouflage - the latter makes the most sense to me). Check reference photos and see what you think.
Details of the seven aircraft are as follows:
-
W.Nr 111643 B3+ZM 4/KG(J)54 Found at Vlatov Czechoslovakia;
-
White S 111/EJG2 Lechfield 1944;
-
White 17 111/EJG2 Lechfield Oberst Hans Trautloft 1944;
-
WNr 111639 possibly NAGr6 now at NSA Willow Grove USA;
-
WWNr 110635 Red 10 IV/NGJ11 Schleswig in Luftwaffe or RAF Markings;
-
WNr 110306 Red 9 IV/NGJ11 in USAF markings;
-
Avia CS-92.3 V-31 of the VLs Scientific Aviation Institute, September 1947
Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across two folded double-sided A4 and one double-sided A5 sheet. Both side views plus upper and lower views are provided for all nine schemes.
A selection of German, Czech, British and US national markings is included.
Colour notes are offered, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.
As usual, the decals are beautifully printed and feature thin carrier film.
This new Xtradecal release will be very welcome for anyone building two-seater Me 262s including including Hasegawa, Heller and HobbyBoss. Great timing for the forthcoming Airfix kit too.
