Advantages:

Cockpit decals are clear and give a good degree of detail. Good option to increase detail levels if you don’t like photoetch. Photo etch detail for the canopies, with inner face details, rear view mirrors for a nice touch.

Disadvantages:

For the decal set, seat belts will look flat. Half of the etch set has no instructions.

Conclusion:

These Furball sets provide an easy improvement to cockpit detailing for eith your Academy or Z-M F-4’s. There is the possibility that they may be close to interchangeable.

Furball Aero-Design 48-047 - F-4B/N,J/S Cockpit Detail Set

This set is a re-release of the out of print 2015 set.

“F-4B/N, F-4J/S Cockpit Detailing Set “alleviates the tedious task of cockpit painting. This set includes instrument panel decals that are designed to exactly fit the Academy cockpit parts. Decals are also included for enhancing the kit’s ejection seats including seatbelts and ejection ring handles.

 

 

One set of decals is included for F-4B/N cockpits, and one set is included for F-4J/S cockpits. The decals have literally no surrounding carrier film, which in cockpits is very useful and appears to be well aligned.

You may want to check against your Hasegawa or Z-M kits to see if they are close to interchangeable.

 

 

I have taken the liberty of supplying a photo from Furball of a decaled instrument panel which looks very impressive.

 

 

I’m looking forward to using these on my Academy kit I have in the stash for the extra details.

 

Furball Aero-Design FPE-003 F-4S Canopy and Airframe Detail Set

 

 

This is a new 2017 release.

 

 

The 'McDonnell F-4S Phantom Canopy and Airframe Detail Set' which is designed to be used with Zoukei-Maru kits and includes upgrades for:

  • Formation strip lights

  • Tail reinforcement plate

  • Canopy Mirrors

  • Canopy hooks

  • VTAS (Visual Target Acquisition System)

This is all good until you get to the instructions. The canopy details are clearly shown, but there is nothing given to you on the remaining parts of Formation lights etc.

 

 

This is disappointing Furball as half your etch sheet is ignored. You will need to do your own research for their placement. The etch itself, is well formed and clean.

 

 

C o n c l u s i o n

 

Furball Aero-Design offerings in these releases, gives the modeller, the option of accurately improving the look of the cockpits and canopies with a minimum of fuss, which will be appreciated greatly.
