Review Type:

First Look.

Advantages:

Beautifully detailed; perfect casting; straightforward cleanup and assembly.

Disadvantages:

Conclusions:

There is no doubt that Tamiya's 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 is a beautiful kit straight fron the box. Eduard has, however, produced a suite of upgrades that lift the kit to an even higher standard. If you have already built a Tamiya Gustav straight from the box, this would be a luxurious way to enhance your next Bf 109 G-6 project.

are available online from Squadron.com

FirstLook

Eduard released a slew of resin and photo-etched accessories for Tamiya's gorgeous 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 not long after the kit's release.

They have now combined a number of the most interesting and relevant BRASSIN resin, photo-etched and masking products into a single BIG SIN "Essentials" boxing.

This set includes a complete replacement cockpit, hollowed-out exhausts, replacement main and tail wheels, U4 underwing cannon gondolas, a colour photo-etched fret, three brass plated photo-etched frets, and two die-cut self adhesive masking sheets.

Cockpit and Airframe

The cockpit is made up from 19 resin parts plus photo-etched parts.

The resin parts are perfectly cast and beautifully detailed. I have build a couple of BRASSIN Bf 109 cockpits for the Eduard kits, and this one looks equally nice. This is definitely an upgrade worth having.

Options include different styles of cannon breech cover and the choice of resin or colour photo-etched instrument panels.

Photo-etched parts are supplied for cockpit details and airframe details including exhaust flame dampers and Morane mast.

Exhausts

This is a simple, drop fit replacement for the kit parts, which are solid at the ends.

Eduard's resin exhausts are hollowed out at the end of each stack. They are also cast with nice centreline weld beads.

Cleanup will be fast and easy as the parts are cast onto multiple narrow posts.

Wheels

This is another very simple replacement.

Eduard's main wheels are keyed for mating with the Tamiya axles at the correct angle. The wheels are subtly bulged and flattened. The tail wheel is supplied in one piece.

Cannon Gondola

These offer more detail than the kit parts, including full breech detail that may be displayed behind open covers.

These are made up from 12 parts in grey resin.

Masks

Self-adhesive, die-cut canopy and wheel masks are also included.

The package is rounded out with heavily illustrated instructions.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that Tamiya's 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 is a beautiful kit straight fron the box.

Eduard has, however, produced a suite of upgrades that lift the kit to an even higher standard.

If you have already built a Tamiya Gustav straight from the box, this would be a luxurious way to enhance your next Bf 109 G-6 project.

Thanks to Eduard for the samples and images.
